TNI begins UN peace keepers joint training

The Indonesian military (TNI) will begin on Tuesday a joint training of United Nations peace keeping forces dubbed Garuda Shield 2009 with 24 countries in Bandung, West Java.

THI chief Gen. Djoko Santoso and chiefs of staff are scheduled to open the training at 10 a.m.

The training, aimed at promoting between the countries' armed forces, especially in the UN peacekeeping mission, will last until June 29.

The training will be participated by armed forces of 24 countries, including United States, Bangladesh, Australia, Cambodia, France, German, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

TNI will host the training at the Infantry Training Center in Cipatat, Padalarang.

Indonesia has been involved in 15 UN peacekeeping missions, including in Egypt, Vietnam, Lebanon and Congo, since 1957 . (dre)
