The Cambodian Government says its efforts to implement an anti-corruption law have been delayed by international organisations. Last week, nearly 200-thousand Cambodians signed a petition calling for the government to pass its long-awaited anti-corruption law. Cambodians have now been waiting more than ten years for the law to be enacted.
But Om Yienting, Head of the Head of Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Unit, says the government has been attempting to implement the law for a number of years.
He says delays are being caused by international organisations objecting to elements of the draft law. And when the national assembly sent back to the government... the same NGO, the same foreigner country starts to involve, to review everything. When someone blocks this procedure and says please go ahead, what can we do?
