HCM CITY — Experts from Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia have identified the exact location where the three countries’ borders meet during a conference this week in HCM City.
The position will now be marked with a border post as agreed to by each party.
Nguyen Hong Thao, head of the Department for the Western Border under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Border Commission, led the Vietnamese delegation.
Thao said delegates embraced feelings of solidarity, friendship and mutual understanding and all sides agreed on principles and basis for the demarcation.
They also discussed how to implement and co-ordinate plans in the future to complete marking this border point by the middle of 2008.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this effort was significant in further completing border demarcation programmes among the three countries and also contributed to the Programme for the Development Triangle Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam initiated by the three countries’ Prime Ministers last August. — VNS
