13 lawmakers from 11 countries to visit Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Parliamentary members from 11 countries will visit Cambodia on Nov. 11-16 to see the World Bank projects carried out in the country, a World Bank source said here on Saturday.

The lawmakers are from Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Iceland, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, Rwanda, Switzerland and Britain, said Bou Saroeun, spokesman for the World Bank's office in Cambodia.

"They will see the World Bank projects and monitor the agricultural fields. They also want to know about Cambodia's achievements in developing its economy and the barriers and challenges it faces in the next few years," he said.

The World Bank has prepared the schedule for these visitors, who will also meet with Cambodian lawmakers, top government officials, development partners, youth deputies and NGO leaders, he added.

According to a press release from the World Bank, the bank has a Parliament Network of some 1,000 members from 110 countries which aims to help strengthen transparency and accountability of the bank in its poverty reduction strategies.

The World Bank is among the top donor institutions for Cambodia.
